HEATHER NEWMAN: Saving on-air music may end: "The PERFORM bill would force broadcasters to include a flag in their digital transmissions -- HD radio, satellite radio, Internet radio -- that would make them impossible to record for rebroadcast later.

Ernie Estrella, a 30-year-old graphic designer in Ypsilanti, records satellite radio with his Sirius Sportster Replay.

'When you have long commutes, these recorded shows can come in handy,' he said. 'We need to stop worrying how to find new ways to hinder progress and technology advances and get with the current needs and demands.'

The bill was introduced last year and stalled. It was reintroduced earlier this year.."
